Purpose of award: To support student filmmakers with no previous professional experience who are enrolled as full-time students.
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be full-time students at an accredited U.S. college, university, film school or art school. Films must be made as a part of a school curriculum in the categories of alternative, animation, documentary or narrative. Entries must have been completed after April 1 of the previous year. In case of graduation or other departure from a program, a film may be submitted up to one year from that date. All entries must be submitted on DVD-R format. Selection is based on originality, entertainment, production quality and resourcefulness.

Number of awards: 3 per category.
