Newcastle University will be offering up to 20 full-fee Promise Scholarships worth up to £9,000 per year for students of high ability from low income backgrounds, who meet specific criteria.
Eligibility
- New UK undergraduate students who start a degree course in 2012 who are predicted to achieve (or have already achieved) at least grades AAB at A level or equivalent and have a residual income of £15,000 or less per year
- Live in an area which is among the 10% most deprived in the UK (based on information about the postcode where you live). Check your postcode on our look up system
- Receive (or be eligible for) Free School Meals
- Attend a school or college where the average points score attainment per student is below 550 (2010 school performance data provided by the Qualification and Curriculum Authority, quoted by the Department of Education)
- Have lived in Local Authority care for at least three months in the 10 years prior to beginning a course at Newcastle University.
Application Procedure
- Students must apply separately for a Promise Scholarship
- Stage 1 - Complete the Stage 1 Scholarship Application Form.
- Stage 2 - Students who are successful at Stage 1 will be invited to complete the second stage of the application. This will include a personal statement by the student, supported by a teacher/tutor reference.
